Success Through Team Building
Written by Bart Icles on May 12, 2010 – 7:11 AM -Team building activities help bring out the best in every employee and promote camaraderie among themselves. Every once in a while, the heads of every company or department, should have a special day intended for team building exercises to help stir up positive emotions which would help the employees become more productive in their work. These types of activities should not only include icebreakers or fun games, but it should also involve activities which would motivate the people to put more heart into their work and have a better attitude towards it.
When organizing this kind of motivational activity, a team building consultant would probably make things easier. These people are usually experienced in giving pep talks and facilitating activities to make the people really part of a team. Their talks usually involve people who inspire others to do their work well, not only for themselves, but for their respective teams or departments as well. These team building consultants encourage individuals to become better workers and put a positive attitude to good use.
It is better if your team building consultant is part of the company so that the people feel that he or she knows what he or she’s talking about. But there are a lot of experienced motivators who are really effective no matter which company he or she is handling.
During these team building activities, it is best that you learn problem solving methods aside from fun and inspirational activities. By knowing how to solve and avoid conflicts, the group or department’s workplace will be more harmonious and productive. If your group is currently experiencing a problem, these kinds of activities could be a way to channel attention to it and solve it. Team building programs could be a way to ease the tension the group is experiencing.
Trainings will consist of activities which will encourage the participants to voice out their concerns to the group. Because of this, the group will be able to understand each other more and develop their relationship with one another. They could also try to give or help each other think of solutions to resolve each other’s problems which will be for the improvement of their company. The whole group’s working methods and problems will also be recognized and everyone will take part in analyzing the situation and create goals to become better workers.
Team building is definitely a must for every company. The best companies are equipped with the most productive and competent employees. If team building activities are the way to go, then it is a small price to pay for the development of the company and most especially the employees who comprise the company.

Do You Know What It Takes To Be A Successful Entrepreneur?
Written by John Desmond on October 4, 2009 – 8:22 AM -How many times have you daydreamed about being an entrepreneur? Never missing a little league game, enjoying all the benefits that come with being self employed. Perhaps you can see yourself sitting on the beach sipping Mojitas as your bank balance grows.
Wait just one moment, don’t sign the contract for the summer home in the Hamptons just yet. There is something you need to consider first: Is it in you to be a true entrepreneur? Do you have the stamina and the guts to earn lots of money and be rich?
In order to be positive you should see how you rate on the following five topics, Can you / will you:
-Press on when there is no gratification, results are slow to come? In the beginning the sheer rush of owning your own business will color the way you see and feel about everything. Adrenaline will pound through your veins for days or even a month.
Unfortunately, the high does not last very long. Now you are faced with working long hours trying to make a go of it and all the adrenaline has dried up. The hardest part at this point is you are working diligently without any tangible results. Leaving you with little if anything to motivate you on to your goals.
So again, I ask you: Is it possible for you to stay with something without instant rewards? If you answered yes, it is possible that entrepreneurship will be just the ticket for you.
-Walk away from a losing proposition? Anytime you spend days or weeks on a proposition it can feel like your baby. Honestly, it rather is, at least in a manner of speaking, I mean this is your brainchild.
No one is perfect and before you know it you can be neck deep in a bad concept that threatens the very life of your business. Is it in you to let go and move on to the next idea in spite of your emotional attachment to the plan? Do this part well and you are on your way to being a good entrepreneur.
-Believe in yourself and your capabilities? There will be those who doubt you, unbelievably some will be your own family. They may cajole you, laugh or even berate you for what you are doing. If they can get to you the chances of you succeeding just went from slim to none.
It takes rock solid confidence in your idea and abilities, if you have that you can be a great entrepreneur.
-Do you have a firm grip on the value of what you are offering? This is a huge problem; many times a new entrepreneur will work their fingers to the bone for nothing. Most of the time this is a result of not valuing the solution they are providing. A new business owner has thoughts like “I would never pay that much for this product or service, so I better set a low price.”
The thing you must keep in mind is that you are not the market nor are you the customer. If you have something good to offer your customers that adds value or convenience to their lives then you should earn accordingly. Do not worry if your prices are too high they will tell you about it.
Value the solutions you provide until you hear otherwise. You may be a good entrepreneur when you get this part down pat.
-Problem solver? This is the big final question, can you solve problems?
When you are an entrepreneur problem solving must be your forte. The proverbial buck must stop with you in this business. There is no higher-level officer to do it for you. It will be all on your shoulders to find the problem and then solve it.
The main reason you have to be a problem solver is to stay in business and make a killing! Trust me if you can spot a problem in the lives of people and then solve it they will pay dearly for the answer. When you have successfully accomplished this you are a good entrepreneur.

Organizational Management : Organizational Change Strategy
Written by Tony Angelo on September 23, 2009 – 2:06 AM -In this installment of our guide to organizational management we look at managing change…
Successful organizations will be required at some point in their development to effect change. Changes can result from operational strategy makeovers, when adding or removing major units of practice, or even when the underlying mission statement of a company undergoes a transformation.
It’s not something that can be ignored, indeed those organizations that try to do that inevitably fail. Yet, it needn’t be complicated, following a few simple principles will go a long way to successfully managing changes in an organization.
It must be realized that any organization is just the sum of its members and that it cant change unless its members do so. Too often the focus is only on changing methods or systems when it should be on changing the people. Having the best new method or system in the world available is of little use is the people who are meant to be using it are intent on doing things the way they always have.
There should be a constant emphasizing of not just what is changing, but also why it is changing and, most importantly, what the benefits of changing it are. People are always acutely aware of what they’re losing, but often they don’t have a clear picture of what positives to expect in its place. Regardless of how good a strategy for change has been drawn up, if the people who it ultimately affects don’t buy into the reason for change, it won’t be successful.
Open and honest communication is a company’s best plan when attempting to effect organizational change. Staff needs to have pertinent information and the ability to provide feedback on the proposed change. All the speeches, newsletters, corporate videos, values statements and such in the world cannot engage the employees of a company the way that allowing them a part to play in the process can.

What Happens Without Strategic Thinking?
Written by Bartt Iccles on September 17, 2009 – 2:35 AM -Practically everything in life requires a strategy that has been well thought-out and is carefully crafted, whether you are working to make a major purchase, win a game, have a most satisfying vacation, and the like. Of course, business itself is one of the key things that require a solid strategy; without it, a business has no legs and no direction and is highly likely to fail.
Strategic thinking is something you need in order to build a successful business, and if you are a business owner, it is something you definitely have to develop. To become a strategic thinker, you need to be someone who is capable of seeing into the future and seeing the possible results that could arise as a result of making certain decisions. Strategic thinking enables you to make the right decisions and plan the next move as well in the event of failure or other unforeseen circumstances.
Without strategic thinking, you will just be taking each day and problem as it comes. That’s not a bad approach when it comes to day-to-day living, really, but not when it comes to business. You cannot simply walk into various business matters and issues and just hope for the best. You can’t expect to just solve problems as they come up. You need to have solutions prepared for every possible contingency. This establishes your business and enables it to be ready for absolutely anything.
The absence of strategic thinking suggests that you and your business are just flailing around without any direction at all, and also that you are not taking your business seriously. You have to have a clear vision for your company, as well as a set of steps that will allow you to achieve your goals. You need to know what types of factors could positively AND negatively impact the way your business works, and you have to know how your business could survive any upheaval.
The lack of strategic thinking also means that your company is not able to keep track of trends in your field or industry and practically guarantees that you are not able to predict how trends are going and what the next new developments will be, ensuring that you will always be playing second fiddle to more visionary companies and that you are just scrabbling for a slice of the next big thing that someone else has thought up.
Strategic thinking makes sure that your company stays strong and alive throughout different types of problems, and also gives you a reputation for being prepared and forward-looking.
