There is no doubt that playing nice with others is a nice trait but being competitive is a trait that leads to success. Everywhere you look, competition dominates life, business, and sports. Most strive to keep up or beat the Joneses, get a bigger market share, or win the next game. For the most part, those that accomplish those goals are successful because being competitive teaches us how to get results. Without competition, there is no success.
For example, Donald Trump is competitive in the real estate game and when he had the opportunity to do the Apprentice show on television he wanted the show to win the ratings game, which it did. Having a drive to compete and be the best is a very important ingredient in achieving success. Without that competitive drive what’s the purpose of success. Another example is Las Vegas, why do hotels become more opulent and try to outdo all the other hotels? It’s a requirement to stay in business and succeed. Additionally, without competition Vegas would not be as much fun.
A competitive nature can take many subtle forms but the key is having a competitive nature so that you can succeed. You can channel your competitive nature for motivation to excel and achieve the success that you want. The more you understand how to use competition the more success you will achieve.
